Addie and Cole are a Kentucky-based duo whose music weaves together indie, folk, and classical influences into a sound defined by connection, storytelling, and expressive musical interplay. Their debut album, The Middle, explores finding meaning in the mundanity of life. Recorded live in Sedona, Arizona, the project captures two voices and two instruments unfolding in real time through deep listening and collaboration. Their work is guided by a quiet but steady philosophy: that music can help us make sense of our humanity, accompany us through seasons of change, and reminds us that we are not navigating those changes alone.
Cole Smith
Violinist, Cole Smith, brings a lifetime of musical exploration to the duo. A Connecticut native, he began studying classical violin at age nine performing with chamber ensembles, Norwalk Youth Symphony, and philanthropic community music initiatives supporting local causes.
After graduating from Vanderbilt University, Cole relocated to Las Vegas. There he met Ted Sablay — longtime touring guitarist and musical director for The Killers — and joined him in performance, opening for artists such as The Wallflowers and Chris Isaak. He has also recorded string arrangements and fiddle solos for TV and film producer Mark Vogel, as well as singer-songwriter Fo Daniels.
Cole’s work extends far beyond performance into arranging and production. Drawing on folk and contemporary electronic music influences, he approaches sound with both precision and curiosity. His arrangements are marked by textural sensitivity blending acoustic warmth with electronic elements in eclectic and thoughtful ways.
Addie Reinhard
Addie, a vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, grew up in her family’s instrument store, Mountain Music Guitar Shop, in rural Tennessee and has been playing music since before she could walk. Her first instrument was piano which she studied formally until college. In addition to her formal training, playing and performing music with her family was a common occurrence.
Though Addie went on to pursue veterinary medicine — earning her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Tennessee — creativity never left her orbit. After practicing clinically, she completed a master’s degree at the University of Kentucky and founded MentorVet, an organization dedicated to mentorship and wellbeing within the veterinary profession. Her work as a leader, educator, and entrepreneur informs her artistry, lending emotional depth and lived perspective to her songwriting.
Addie and Cole met at Acousticamp in 2023, the immersive music gathering founded by internationally acclaimed mandolinist Chris Thile. A spontaneous musical spark quickly turned into a lasting collaboration. After camp, they began playing music together virtually, and what began as casual jam sessions organically evolved into songwriting, performing, and eventually recording as a duo.
Cole’s move to Covington, Kentucky marked a turning point, allowing the duo to fully lean into shared creative life — writing, performing, and touring together throughout the region and beyond.
At the heart of Addie and Cole’s music is partnership: two distinct musical voices meeting in real time, listening closely, and shaping something neither could create alone. Whether performing in listening rooms, coffee shops, nursing homes, or intimate community spaces, they aim to create experiences that invite presence — moments where audiences can slow down, reflect, and feel connected.
Their work is guided by a quiet but steady philosophy: that music can help us make sense of our humanity, accompany us through seasons of change, and reminds us that we are not navigating those changes alone.
Their debut album, The Middle, was recorded live at Piano Haven in Sedona, Arizona. This was an intentional decision rooted in a desire to capture the musical connection that emerges in real time with two voices and two instruments. Embracing deep listening and Cole’s improvisatory instincts, Addie and Cole allowed the performances to unfold organically.
At its core, the album explores the search for meaning within the mundanity of everyday life, honoring liminal spaces. The record weaves original works alongside carefully chosen classical pieces, reflecting the duo’s reverence for tradition while illuminating their evolving artistic voice. The result is a listening experience that feels both intimate and expansive, inviting audiences to slow down and discover beauty in the ordinary.
Their forthcoming album, Bloom, reflects on growth through seasons of transition and the enduring search for home, whether in a place, in connection, or within ourselves.
